Welcome to
Scottish Muse, a virtual gallery showcasing the work of Ayrshire-based
artist Ray Leaning. An established master of pencilwork, Ray also works
in chalk and conté and in oils.
Inspired
by Scotland's architectural history, melancholic landscapes and dramatic
coastline, this new body of work celebrates the emotive scenery for which
Scotland is famous.
A strictly

Croy
House Art Group - June to August 2010
Are you a Frustrated Creative?
Learn to draw and paint this summer,
with two professional artists, at one of the most picturesque spots on
the Ayrshire coast. Croy House nestles in Croy Bay, enjoying magnificent
views of Culzean Castle and out across the Firth of Clyde to Ailsa Craig
and the Isle of Arran.
Here you will explore the traditional skills of fine art: horizon lines
and accurate measuring by eye, depth and distance, light and shadows,
quick sketching and loose drawing, composition, texture, figure drawing
and portraiture. This will lead you into colour, using paint and working
on canvas.
Resident artist at Croy House, Roddy McKenzie, is an
Ayrshire-born artist who graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1982.
Roddy has travelled and painted throughout the British Isles, Europe and
America, exploring Dada and Surrealism, Pop Art and Impressionism –
all reflected at different times in his painting, sculpture and photography.
His current works, on display at Croy, are inspired by the landscapes
and stunning seascapes that surround his home.
Ray Leaning completed his BA in Fine Art at Exeter, before
doing a PGCE Art & Design at Brighton University. The simple pencil
is Ray’s medium of choice although he also works in oil on canvas.
He is known world-wide for his figurative work of dancers and burlesque
performers. A move to Ayrshire four years ago opened his eyes to capturing
the drama of Scottish land and seascapes.
Croy House Art Group is a new collaboration for these two artists, with
some 60+ years of experience between them. Ray and Roddy are hoping their
tuition will give beginners the skills they need to get off to a flying
start, and inspire amateur artists to take creative leaps forward.
Classes are every Sunday afternoon, 1pm until 3.30pm,
and begin on Sunday 27 June.
This ten week block costs £25 per session. Art materials and refreshments
are provided, and there’s plenty of space to park. It is hoped that
fine weather will allow some drawing and painting in the landscape. Classes
are for adults only; all levels and abilities are welcome. If you are
unsure whether or not to take the plunge, try the half price taster session
at 1pm on Sunday 20 June: 2 1/2 hours for just £12.50.
